Boohyun Nam

Dr. Boohyun Nam is an Associate Professor in Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) at University of Central Florida (UCF). He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Over the years, Dr. Nam has conducted research grants (over approx. $4.5 M) in the areas of sinkhole and subsidence, building and construction materials (e.g. geomaterials, cement/concrete, sustainable materials, etc.), remote sensing and nondestructive evaluation, and pavement engineering. His research has been published in more than 160 peer-reviewed publications (with 69 journal articles). He has given a number of invited talks over the world (e.g., Germany, Japan, China, Korea, Egypt, etc.) and delivered three keynote speeches in international conferences. Dr. Nam currently serves in multiple technical committees of ASCE Geotechnical-Institute (GI) and Transportation Research Board (TRB), and the organization committees of The Sinkhole Conference, AEG Karst Hazards Forum Conference, and so on. He has served the editorial boards in Frontiers in Built Environment, Materials (guest editor), Journal of the Korean Geotechnical Society, and KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering (2015-2018). He has also served multiple leadership positions, including the current president of Korean Transportation Association in American (KOTAA) and vice president of Korean Geotechnical Society (KGS)-North America. Dr. Nam has advised total 21 graduate students (completion of 9 PhDs and 7 MSs; currently 5 PhD students). He has been serving as the faculty advisor of the ASCE-UCF Student Chapter (recipient of the Faculty Advisor of the Year in 2016).
